Excerpt:

Gentle fingertips grazed the edge of her jaw, trailing down her neck to her collarbone. His citrine gaze stared deeply into her eyes, and her body heated at his tender touch. “You’re okay, yeah?” Thaene asked, his voice hoarse from their lovemaking. Am I okay? She hardly knew. Though she had nothing to compare it to, this feeling was more than giving her virginity to him. Quinn felt like something bigger inside had stirred to life, wanting to escape. “You know I love you. I’m sorry if it hurt.” He kissed her again, his lips caressing hers, as if he could take the ache away. “Say something, Quinn. Please.” “I love you, Thaene.” She pressed herself into him, passionately returning his affection. As their kiss continued, Quinn wondered if he wanted more. She also wondered if she had more to give. “I want us together, always. Do you want that, Quinn?” Thaene’s eyes danced with a mixture of emotions—love, passion, possessiveness, and something else she couldn’t name. “We can have forever. You want that, don’t you?” Thaene asked. “Yes,” Quinn answered breathlessly, before realizing what she’d agreed to. She smiled, finding his need for her exciting. “Forever is a long time. But I could do it with you.” Thaene smiled back. Happiness lit his face. He looked like he’d just won a major prize—he looked triumphant. “Being with you on your twenty-second birthday was very special to me. You’ve given me such a precious gift.” “I love you. I can’t imagine my first time with anyone else.” Besides, my gift of Sight showed you to me, over and over. How could I not give myself to you? Her gift had shown her something else as well. Since she didn’t understand it, Quinn ignored it. She’d followed her heart where Thaene was concerned. Not even her mother’s dislike—or in spite of it— changed her mind. Following your heart always led you down the right path. Thaene lightly brushed her hair from her face, then he rested his forehead on hers. “There’s something else I’d like you to give me. Will you do that? Give me what I desire the most?” The longing in his voice made Quinn squirm underneath him. Right now, she’d give him anything. “It’s the most precious gift of all. One I’ll cherish forever.” Oh my God. He wants to marry me. “Yes,” Quinn said, drawing in a breath. “I’ll give you anything.” “Good.” Thaene nuzzled her neck. “I want you to show me your Magyk.” “What?” Quinn blinked at him, wondering if she’d heard him right. “If you want us to have forever, you must show me your Magyk.”

Blog Tour--Mark of the Dragon by M.R. Polish and Bill Morgan Playlist!

Co-writing Mark of the Dragon with my dad was amazing. I love that we were able to mesh our writing voices together so well. I love our dragons and all our characters (some more than others lol). While writing, and I can't speak for Bill, but I have to listen to music. Sometimes I listen to things that wouldn't normally be on my everyday playlists, but the songs bond with the muse and create the perfect mood for each scene. I can't explain how every song I listen to is attached dramatically in some way to each scene.

Below is my personal Spotify playlist for Mark of the Dragon, along with each song and what it meant to me during the writing process...

Come Away to the Water helped me when writing the whole book. It helped set the tone during many scenes and attached itself to Andra, who is one of our main characters.

Kingdom Come I can picture the country of Santerrian. Not sure why, but it helped when Andra took her journey to the orb. I think it was on constant repeat during that part of the story lol.

Daughter's Lament was a fun song to listen to while writing the Vetaunex. Not so much a repeat song, but it helped when Liam went hunting.

Safe & Sound is just a great song. I can picture Andra and Amoreth with this song, the war between the countries made an intense journey and this song helped create some peace with the characters - as well as setting the tone in the story.

The Dragon's Breath is beautiful! No words needed. The haunting Celtic sounds soothed as well as incited many emotions. There was a scene with Sorem that if I read while listening to this song I could cry. I can picture the entire story with just this song. It is kinda like my personal theme song for it. If there were ever an official soundtrack or (dreaming here...) a movie, this song would be on my must have list.

I Hate Everything About You is not a typical song for this story I admit, but the muse loved it for certain scenes. Regina was a hard person to feel and I found that using this song as well as a couple others helped. It also helped draw out some deeper emotions that helped with fighting or anger, even sorrow.

Burn it to the Ground is a go to song for fights if you ask me. When the dragons are flying in the air and fighting, this was playing! This song pumps me and many of my muses up.

Kryptonite is a song that helped set the mood for different scenes. It helped when they Liam was traveling a lot.

Pain is another song I used with Regina. Trying to dig for a deeper emotion and trying to understand why she was so dark.

Second Chance is one of those songs that just fits. You know when you go see a movie and the last song that closes the movie and the screen fades to black? Yes, this would be it for me lol. It has nothing to do with the story, but somehow it really does fit.

My Immortal is a close song for me personally and it took a while before I could listen to it without crying, but this song helped with a lot of the story, especially in the beginning. There is a scene with Andra and Terrax that this hits for me. The traditions of dragons and their riders make this hit even harder and pull out more. It is also the perfect song to leave you all with......

In a land of warriors and dragons, everything is about to change...

Countries are divided and war is raging, but none of that matters to Andra. She is destined to be a dragon rider. There has never been a woman rider, but that doesn't matter to her. After her father's death, she trains harder than any man to be a worthy candidate. Even when the Aquastrian leader wants her dead, she fights back. Can she over come traveling hundreds of miles on foot, surviving hunger, bandits, assassins and wild carnivores?

Liam is just another warrior who hopes he is worthy of the Mark of the Dragon. He must endure the long trek from Aquastra to Santerrian, avoiding all people, especially those who may be hired to kill him. Meeting Andra along the way changes everything. He admires her willful spirit and is inspired to do even more as a warrior and stop the war. He fights to help her, kills to protect her, but will it be enough to get them both to their dragons before it's too late?

You can purchase Mark of the Dragon on Kindle or on your Nook. You can also get Mark of the Dragon in paperback (which has some cool scrolls in the beginning) here ---> Createspace or Barnes & Noble

The Mysts of Santerrian also has a website that you can check out tid-bits as we write the stories, read some of the book for free, and even some extras.... www.mystsofsanterrian.com

About the Authors

M.R. Polish was born in Idaho, a long, long, long, well, maybe not that long time ago.... Writing has always been there for her. Growing up, her mind was filled with stories, some she shared and others she filed away to write down later in life. It wasn't until 2011 that she decided to publish her stories for everyone to enjoy. Her first award, and when writing became more than just an idea, was in the 5th grade. She won the scary story contest for the school newspaper. It is one story she still has tucked away for memories. Her teacher told her she could be anything she wanted and that she had a talent for writing, being creative and drawing people into her stories. M.R. took that to heart and continued to write, although mostly in secret until recent years.
Now you can find her enjoying life with her family - wrangling her four kids, setting traps in the house with toys for unsuspecting victims (aka, her husband) and writing down all her crazy and fun stories.

Bill Morgan is M.R.'s dad, and if she was born that long ago, You all should shudder at how long ago he was born. He has always been creative. As an amateur artist and an avid woodworker, he always could see the hidden beauty in a blank piece of paper or a piece of wood. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1986 and spent twenty years saving lives and serving his country. He always had stories running around in his head, but he never tried to put them onto paper until M.R. convinced him to do this book with her. Now he is actively writing two additional sci-fi/fantasy novels. Hopefully she hasn't created a monster. Bill's favorite thing is his family. He has a wonderful wife, two adult daughters, four sisters, and more wonderful nieces and nephews than you can believe. His last count was over one hundred and he loves them all. One of his favorite quotes comes from a movie, but it applies to writing a fictional novel as well:

Cover Reveal--The Making of Nebraska Brown by Louise Caiola

Hi guys! I'm pleased to be part of this cover reveal today. Take a gander at this interesting concept. It made me think and wonder. How about you?

COVER AND BLURB

The last thing eighteen-year-old Ann Leigh remembers is running from her boyfriend in a thick Nebraska cornfield. This morning she’s staring down a cool Italian sunrise, an entire continent from the life she once knew. The events of the eighteen months in between have inexplicably gone missing from her memory.
All at once she’s living with Tommy, an attractive, young foreigner asking for her continued love. Though he’s vaguely familiar, she recalls a boy named Shane in America who she reluctantly agreed to marry. Juggling a new world while her old one is still M.I.A is difficult enough without the terrifying movie scenes spinning a dizzy loop in her mind: glimpses of a devastating house fire, a romance gone wrong, an unplanned pregnancy, and a fractured family – each claiming to be part of who she once was – a girl and a past somehow discarded.
Ann Leigh must collect the pieces of herself to become whole again, but she doesn’t know who to trust especially when Tommy’s lies become too obvious to ignore.  And above all, her heart aches to discover what became of the child she may or may not have given birth to.

The Making of Nebraska Brown tells the story of one girl’s coming apart from the inside and the great lengths she’ll go to reclaim herself and find her way home.

My Review:

Empath (The Flawed Series, #1)Empath by Becca J. Campbell
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I was given a copy of the ARC for an honest review.

Empath was not what I expected going in. The paranormal elements are very light in the story yet play a major role in the overall plot.

This book read mostly like a contemporary thriller with a few paranormal elements sprinkled in. Jade has empathic abilities that debilitate her. She takes on the emotions of those around her, which makes socializing very hard.

Imagine being in a crowded room and being bombarded with the varying emotions of those around you. Essentially, Jade doesn't know who she is when this story starts. She's been extremely sheltered and her spunk waxes and wanes throughout the story. I admired her desire to overcome her affliction, but I would have liked her try to accept it much sooner in the novel.

There were other characters who had paranormal abilities that all collide in a smallish city in Colorado.

I really like Becca J. Campbell's writing style and I did enjoy the book. The problems I had with it are mostly related to being in the head of a serial killer. I did not like reading scenes from the killer's point of view. He too has paranormal abilities, yet is disabled. He uses his seeming disability to lure in beautiful brunettes to torture and kill.

There was a bit of a hand of god flow to the story, but I think that was the intent. These people are brought together for a purpose. I would have liked to have seen more of a direction from the characters rather than the divine, but the story did work well.

If you like thrillers with a super creepy villain and an overcoming the odds tale, this book might be for you.

Thanks to Becca Campbell for the opportunity to read and review Empath. It was an enjoyable read and it will be interesting to see how the series progresses.

"How far would you go to protect the man in your dreams?"

Bio:
B.J. Sheldon's love of writing has developed into a passion for creating exciting characters and storylines that she hopes will enthrall and inspire young readers to pick up a book and use their imaginations. Her novel, "Haunting: The Dusty Chronicles - Book One", is based in her hometown of Hull, Iowa and focuses on a teenage girl adjusting to a new town as well as the ghost that has begun haunting her home...and her dreams.

Born in Sioux City, Iowa in 1972 and adopted thirteen days later, B.J. grew up on a farm just outside of Hull, Iowa.  Later, she moved with her parents to Phoenix, Arizona where her father did various odd jobs before retiring as a freight hauler, and her mother started her own business, professionally cleaning homes. B.J. graduated from a private high school in 1990.  Throughout her junior high and high school career, she could be found writing poems, short stories and novelettes on a daily basis.

B.J. was married at the age of 20 and moved with her husband to Glendale, Arizona. Together they had two beautiful daughters, at which time she put her writing aspirations aside to become a full-time purchasing assistant, wife and mother. In 1999, she decided to add full-time student to her already busy schedule and graduated with a degree in project management from theUniversity of Phoenix. Divorcing in 2001, BJ. moved back to Phoenix and got a job as a program manager.

Then, in 2003, she married Steven Sheldon, her muse, and together they welcomed their daughter in 2004.

In 2009, B.J. lost her job and remained unemployed for nine months. During that time, she once again discovered her love for writing and wrote her first, full-length novel for her daughter's fifteenth birthday called, “Schuyler and the Saga of the Sages”. Unable to find an agent, B.J. started looking for an idea for her next novel. One night, after a conversation with her husband about the paranormal, an idea was born and the rest was history. Over the course of the next eighteen months, B.J. developed the plot and wrote “Haunting”, a story about a teenage girl who discovers that the ghost who is haunting both her farm and her dreams has a mysterious past.

In 2011, B.J. was awarded a silver medal in the Reader’s Favorite Award Contest in the Young Adult/Fantasy category and was the only book in that genre to win an award without being a previously published work. "Haunting" was published on April 29, 2013 by Wandering in the Words Press. Her dream is to one day attend a book signing in her home town in Iowa where she first developed her love of words.

She currently lives in New Jersey with her husband, Steven, who is now a veteran of both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, along with her three daughters, dog and three cats.  Some of her favorite authors include Richard Russo, Nicholas Sparks, Isaac Marion, Suzanne Collins, JK Rowling and Guy De’Maupassant. The sequel to "Haunting: The Dusty Chronicles - Book One" is tentatively set to be released in March 2014.
